The legendary running coach needed a solution in the form of a versatile rubber sole that would work on any surface, so he borrowed his wife's handy device - and the Nike Waffle was born . In fact, the waffle iron used was donated to Nike by Melissa Bowerman, Bill's daughter.

Although the Dunk Low doesn't have an immediate connection to this running model, the Nike Waffle laid the groundwork for traction pattern design. In the sport of basketball, stability on the court relies on the specific grooves and patterns of rubber soles, which the Dunk has in abundance.

In this new version, the Dunk pays homage to these eccentric origins with a freshly baked leather and suede colorway, featuring an embossed texture on the midpanel and labels on the tongue and insole. The laces and Swoosh are a very soft off-white, while the gum soles finish the look.
