The Nike Air Max 97 “Shanghai Kaleidoscope” is one of six winning models from Nike’s “ On Air ” collection. In 2018, Nike invited residents from Shanghai, Seoul, New York, London, Paris and Tokyo to create their own colors on an Air Max model of their choice. Eighteen finalists were then voted on by the public, with one winner from each city. Cash Ru was chosen to represent Shanghai and created this special version of the Air Max 97. According to Cash, this very unique construction is inspired by "the buoyancy and disappearing clouds above the futuristic city of Shanghai ".

The nickname " Kaleidoscope " comes from the way the clouds in the sky interact with Shanghai's tall skyscrapers. The cloud aesthetic is achieved through multiple layers of open panels made from a translucent blue material that create an airy effect on the wavy top. The refreshing light blue hue is complemented by a white tongue and sole, with red Swoosh branding providing contrast. Multiple pull tabs on the tongue and heel add a unique finishing touch. The Nike Air Max 97 “Shanghai Kaleidoscope” was released on April 13, 2019.
