The Salehe Bembury x New Balance 574 Yurt "Shark Skin" is one of two exterior-inspired colorways of the classic lifestyle shoe designed by Salehe Bembury in October 2021. In 2020, Bembury presented its first collaboration with New Balance, the New Balance 2002R “Peace Be the Journey” , an orange look inspired by his morning hikes and the Antelope Valley in Arizona . The colorway was one of the most popular collaborations of 2021, and in 2021, Bembury and New Balance released its second colorway, the 2002R "Water Be the Guide" . Here, the 574 Yurt, a complete redesign by Bembury of the classic 574 model, also takes on an outdoor look with a unique whistle on the heel that promotes safety and survival while hiking. The base of the shoe is constructed from gray mesh. Sharkskin-colored hairy suede overlays appear on the toe, mid, collar and heel. A reflective "N" logo is found on both sides. Overall, the look combines elements of past New Balance models with contemporary styling. The New Balance 574 was originally released as a trail running shoe in the 1980s , and Salehe Bembury 's version is undoubtedly inspired by its original purpose.
