In October 2023 , Nike unveiled the Doernbecher Freestyle XIX collection. This collection, comprised of six unique shoes, was designed by child patients at OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital. These highly anticipated charity sneakers are set to debut just in time for the holiday season.
Hugo “ Juice ” Covarrubias Molina, the designer behind the Air Jordan 3 in this collection, was inspired by the Seattle Seahawks team colors: navy blue and slime green. This last color goes down to the ankle in a nod to the young boy's nickname. Plus, Juice's love of flashy jewelry is reflected in the hang tag, which is plated with 24-karat gold. The shoe's outsole features a powerful message: " It's OK to be different ," which serves as a source of inspiration for Hugo as he deals with his Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome.
